Mental Fitness is a peer-reviewed monthly journal. Its goals are to continue to bridge the gap between psychiatry and primary care and to expose the growing interface between psychiatry and obstetrics and gynecology.
Women are the main sufferers of mental illness, and the OB/GYN field must become educated in modern psychiatry and neuropsychiatry if we are to make continued advances in diagnosing and treating CNS illnesses. Our editorial package is geared to contribute to that end and to the goal of timely, relevant, and educational reporting on developments and trends in the field of psychiatry. The editor of Mental Fitness is Kimberly Yonkers, MD.
Obstetrics & Gynecology continue to be strongly influenced by psychiatry. Evidence-Based Medicine in psychiatry is of utmost importance when it comes to mental illness in women, because so much of the metabolic and hormonal processes that may impact mood and states of mind in women continue to elude the eye of science. MENTAL Fitness is the one journal at the leading edge of this movement.
Vast amounts of research and clinical trials are being conducted by the NIH and by private women’s health organizations in areas like peri-and postnatal depression, menstrual-related depression, peri- and post menopausal mental illness and dementia, and much more including cancer and neurological illness.
