The Next Step Forward: A Move Toward Evidence, and Away From Fear of the Industry

Psychopharmacology Bulletin 36(4): 4-5, 2002/10/15; https://doi.org/10.64719/pb.4337

Abstract

It is both an honor and a challenge to assume the helm as editor of Psychopharmacology Bulletin. The honor, of course, is that a lifelong bibliophile and unabashed lover of the written word has the opportunity to shape the future of a journal started 36 years ago under the auspices of the National Institute of Mental Health. The challenge is to follow in the footsteps of Charles B. Nemeroff, MD, PhD, who is certainly the most energetic, probably the most influential, and possibly the most brilliant psychopharmacologist of our generation. Despite being gifted with size 13 feet, I do not hope to try to fill those Nemeroffian footprints. Instead, let me begin by wishing Dr. Nemeroff unparalleled success as the new editor-in-chief of Neuropsychopharmacology, which is the official journal of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology. The Bulletin is indeed fortunate Dr. Nemeroff has agreed to “stick around” as editor emeritus and will continue to oversee its successful academic supplement series. I wish to thank Charlie for his past efforts and even more so for his friendship and all he has taught me. I look forward to at least several more decades of rivalrous camaraderie.
