Jack M. Gorman, MD

Dr. Jack M. Gorman is a distinguished member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Psychopharmacology Bulletin and serves as CEO and Chief Scientific Officer of Franklin Behavioral Health Consultants, where he provides expert guidance to healthcare organizations to improve the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of mental health care. He is also President and Co-founder of Critica, a non-profit organization dedicated to counteracting scientific misinformation and improving public understanding of science. He previously served as Editor-in-Chief of CNS Spectrums during MedWorks Media’s ownership of the publication.

Academic Excellence

A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Gorman received his medical degree from Columbia University, where he also completed his residency and fellowship in psychiatry. He served on Columbia’s faculty from 1981-2002, becoming Lieber Professor of Psychiatry and Radiology and Director of the Lieber Center for Schizophrenia Research. In 2002, he joined Mount Sinai School of Medicine as Klingenstein Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Professor of Neuroscience.

Research & Publications

Dr. Gorman is a fellow of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology and has authored or co-authored more than 400 scientific articles and chapters. He was continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health for his research from 1981 until 2006 and is one of the most frequently cited authors in psychiatry and neuroscience literature.

His notable publications include co-editing Treatments that Work (now in its fourth edition) and Comprehensive Textbook of AIDS Psychiatry, as well as authoring The Essential Guide to Psychiatric Drugs (fourth edition, 2007). He has received numerous awards from the American Psychiatric Association, American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, and Society for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
